The length of time a cartridge lasts depends on several factors. THE MOST IMPORTANT ONE IS , the number of times the cartridge is cleaned and how cleaned, not power washed. In season the cartridge should be cleaned every 4-5 weeks. If there is a lot of debris or algae, the cartridge will need to be cleaned every day until the pool is clean. If cartridges are not cleaned often enough, they will collapse. The condition of the pool when installed, the amount of debris, algae, or pollen. The length of the swimming season. The water chemistry of the pool. Whether the pool is inside a screened in area. The number of swimmers, suntan lotion, pets in the pool, etc. The outlying area around the pool if treated for insecticides, fertilizers, etc. The chemicals used to treat the pool; chemicals used to remove phosphates break down the filter media. Cartridges will need to be replaced after acid washing the pool, resurfacing the pool, and or phosphate treatments. Always keep an eye on the PRESSURE GAUGE, and when the pressure rises 8 LBS from the day you install, this usually means the cartridges need to be cleaned. How to Measure your Pool Cartridge to 1/16 inch. Measure the outside diameter (OD) of the cartridge across the top of the end cap in inches. Measure the overall length of the cartridge in inches including the end caps. Do not include any handles or threads on the bottom end cap. When possible one of the best ways to measure is through the center core. If the top or bottom end cap is open, measure the inner diameter (ID) of the hole in inches. How to Clean your Pool Filter Cartridge. When the pressure gauge on your filter reaches about 15-20 p. It is time to clean your pool filter cartridges. A good rule is to take the p.
